IRON DOOR MAINTANCE
Iron Door Maintenance for Warranty Coverage
To ensure warranty coverage for your iron door, it is essential to follow proper maintenance guidelines and have a proper overhang. Here are some recommended maintenance practices:
1. Regular Cleaning: Clean your iron door regularly using mild soap and water. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or chemicals that may damage the finish or hardware. Never use a pressure washer on iron doors.
2. Inspection: Periodically inspect the door for any signs of damage, such as rust, cracks, or loose components. If any issues are found, contact the manufacturer or a professional for repair.
3. Lubrication: Lubricate hinges, locks, and other moving parts as per the manufacturer's recommendations. This will prevent friction and ensure smooth operation.
4. Protective Coating: Apply a protective coat of wax or a specialized iron door finish to prevent rust and preserve the door's appearance. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the appropriate coating to use.
5. Weatherstripping: Check and replace weatherstripping as needed to ensure a tight seal and improve energy efficiency. This will prevent moisture infiltration and enhance the longevity of the door.
6. Avoid Harsh Environments: Limit prolonged exposure to extreme weather conditions, such as direct sunlight, heavy rain, or saltwater. These elements can degrade the door's finish or cause corrosion.
7. Professional Installation: Ensure that the iron door is installed correctly by a qualified professional. Improper installation will void the warranty.
8. Maintenance Records: Keep a record of regular maintenance activities, including dates and details of any repairs or servicing performed. These records may be required if warranty claims arise.
Wood/Fiberglass Door Maintenance for Warranty Coverage
To maintain warranty coverage for your wood door, it is important to follow proper maintenance guidelines and proper overhang. Here are some recommended maintenance practices:
1. Keep the Door Sealed: Regularly inspect your wood door for any signs of wear or damage to the finish. If you notice any cracks, peeling, or dryness, it is important to reseal the door. Use a high-quality exterior wood/fiberglass sealant or paint that is specifically designed for outdoor use. Yearly sealer to maintain finish.
2. Clean Regularly: Dust and dirt can accumulate on the surface of the wood door, which can lead to potential damage over time. Clean the door regularly using a soft cloth or sponge and mild detergent mixed with water. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents that can strip the protective finish. Never use a pressure washer on wood or fiberglass doors.
3. Protect from Sun and Moisture: Direct sunlight and excessive moisture can cause the wood to fade, warp, or rot. If your wood door is exposed to direct sunlight, consider applying a UV-resistant clear coat or using window film to minimize UV exposure. Ensure proper drainage around the door to prevent pooling water or excessive moisture absorption. STORM DOORS VOID ALL WARRANTY COVERAGE. Storm doors create extreme heat.
4. Address Scratches and Damages: Minor scratches can be addressed using wood touch-up pens or markers that match the door's finish. For deeper scratches or damages, consult with a professional wood door repair service to avoid further issues.
5. Avoid Extreme Temperature Changes: Sudden and extreme temperature changes can cause the wood to expand or contract, leading to warping or cracking. Avoid exposing the wood door to excessive heat sources or extreme cold, such as direct sunlight or proximity to heating vents.
6. Regular Inspections: Periodically inspect the wood door for any signs of wear, damage, or moisture penetration. Promptly address any issues by contacting the manufacturer or a professional for appropriate repairs.
